- Hello Doug!
-
- ac> HELP! I'm running ss registered on a A3000, 18Megs and 210HD with Zip
- ac> drive, USRobotics modem 28.8K HPLaserJet4P printer, EpsonFX compatible
- ac> printer, and AMAX II + cartridge and external floppy MAX 800 K drive.
- ac> I boot ss from the old amax partition containing sys.7.0.1 .
-
- ac> The problem: I installed chuck's Printer driver onto my system folder
- ac> and used chooser to select it as the printer driver. When I printed a
- ac> test file from CLARIS WORKS, I got garbage out.
-
- And I thought I was the only one. In my case I have an A1200 (40MHz
- 030EC, 8 MB fast, System 7.5.1 and a Canon BJ200 printer).
-
- ac> I then changed over to
- ac> image writer, and the machine then locked up. I had to delete
- ac> Shapeshifter PRAM to get ss back up and running.
-
- The image writer is not the same as an Epson, I suspect Apple uses
- it own strange codes for their versions of the standard printers.
-
- ac> Any advice on a printer driver for HPLaserJet 4P printer, and for an
- ac> EpsonLX would be much appreciated. Is there anyone out there with a
- ac> similar set up that got their printer working?
-
- I do not know if your printer accepts postscript. Even if it does
- not...
-
- Adobe have released a PSPrinter (a few hundred or more kilobytes in
- size) which can print out standard postscript. It can send this out
- directly into an AppleTalk network (which you probably do not have), or
- if it cannot find the AppleTalk, will print the postscript out to a file.
-
- If your printer understands postscript, you can copy the postscript
- file to your Amiga, and then copy directly to par:. Otherwise, as in
- my case, I use a postscript interpreter. There are a number on the
- Internet, e.g. gs353, Post and psprt. Fortunately, the PSPrinter gives
- you an option to use only Level I postscript if you desire (I have not
- found that necessary, gs353 is a Level II interpreter).
-
- And where is this wonderful program? You can search for it using
- lycos (http://www.lycos.com). At Adobe's own ftp site, there is a Fax
- version called FaxPrinter. If you still are unable to find the right
- file (unfortunately there are a few other PSPrinter programs around,
- which merely dump already created postscript files to the printer port),
- contact me again. I'll try to post it onto my web page as well.
-
- ac> Also, I am having difficulty with the modem. I get halfway through a
- ac> download of the Netscape home page, and big crash !!!
-
- Can't help you there...
-
- Cheerio, David.
